![]() ![]() One Drive comes up, but their own website talks primarily about "syncing", which again, is just going to cause the same issues! Google Drive comes up but with that it talks about taking up to 7 days to backup files and that seems like a big time commitment for something I've no idea if it's the solution I need. Is there any solution to this where we can have more control over what is stored locally and backing up stuff so we can still get access to it but it won't sync? I've tried looking online but there are so many junk articles that seem written more for clicks than actual functional useful guidance and many articles just seem to be actively encouraging iCloud usage along with buying that extra storage. She'd previously paid for the extra iCloud storage but that now seems like a bad move as it's now trying to sync 1.8TB of data on to all our devices! Which is all very well but the obvious outcome is eventually, as we've discovered, it just tries to sync more storage than you have space on all your devices, leaving them constantly failing at various operations that need space. ![]() So from what I've been reading, it seems iCloud should be considered a "mass syncing" solution rather than a "storage" one. ![]() It's run out of space because it has synced all her photos/videos and now she can't do stuff like record new videos and other apps keep terminating due to lack of space. My partner is having a similar issue with her 64gb iPhone 12 mini. It seems I'm stuck in a situation of either disabling iCloud altogether or having to live with zero space on the Mac Mini. ![]() Apparently if I delete stuff that's synced with iCloud, then it deletes it there too! Ouch! So I can't just mass select files and delete them, assuming they'd be safely backed up. I can't even upgrade to the latest iOS now because it complains I'm out of space. Any time I try to free up space, iCloud just downloads more stuff using up that space. I let my partner use it for her needs but as she's been a long time Apple user, iCloud has just nuked all the drive space syncing her stuff.Īs this is my first Mac device, I wasn't aware this was going to happen and I don't really know what to do about it. I recently bought my first Mac device, a Mac Mini, but went for the lowest 256gb storage as I wasn't intending to store much on it. TLDR: How do I backup files and remove them from iCloud, so they won't sync to all devices, whilst still having easy access to them? ![]()
